Wisconsin PATCH
Teen Consultant Program
Interested in applying? Check out the job description here!

An opportunity for Wisconsin youth to grow as leaders and changemakers!

The PATCH Teen Consultant Program, (formerly known as the Youth Advocacy Fellowship), is a 10-month program for youth, ages 14-19, in the state of Wisconsin. Teen Consultants are hired (and paid!) to learn about topics related to adolescent health and to grow as leaders and advocates by sharing their ideas and feedback in community and state-level conversations.

The program consists of two main parts:

  1. Enrichment Meetings: virtual meetings where Teen Consultants learn about important adolescent-health topics. Community experts join meetings to share information and lead discussions around health (examples: mental health, substance use and addiction, body positivity, inequities in healthcare, sexual health, etc).

  2. Consulting Sessions: a virtual space for PATCH Teen Consultants and professionals to come together and review adolescent-focused projects and initiatives. More information below!

To learn more, follow us on social media and/or reach out to a Coordinator (contact info at the bottom of the page)! If you are interested in applying to be a Teen Consultant, watch for our application, which opens every spring!

PATCH is introducing a new youth opportunity this 2023 - 2024 program year. This team is called the PAL (Policy and Leadership) Advocates and consists of 7 youth (ages 13 - 19) who have already completed a program cycle with PATCH. This 2023-2024 program year, the PAL Advocates team is working together to facilitate change statewide with the aim to improve Wisconsin's sexual health education.

Consulting

Teen Consultants have consulted on a wide variety of projects/programs, including: community messaging about sexual violence prevention, social and emotional health activities, sexual education curriculum, school policies around suicides and memorials, barriers to youth engagement in tobacco prevention programs, and many others! At this time, sessions are offered at no cost to the client, PATCH pays teens for their time.

Youth can play an extremely important role in enhancing adolescent health efforts; however existing structures of power often deter meaningful youth participation in decisions that impact their lives. To bridge this gap, PATCH Teen Consultants offer consulting sessions. These virtual meetings bring youth and professionals together, creating space for youth to voice their feedback and ideas and space for professionals to improve their projects and programs.

Consulting sessions are typically 60-90 minute virtual, focus group-style meetings. Clients are supported throughout the process by a PATCH Coordinator who will support session preparation and facilitate the session itself, allowing clients to take notes, ask additional follow up questions, and answer questions raised by youth.

PATCH Teen Consultants are now open to scheduling consulting sessions! If you are interested in learning more information or would like to discuss setting up a session, please contact consulting@wipatch.org or click the button below to fill out a request.
